Sabudana Thalipeeth-

 Sabudana Thalipeeth

Sabudana Thalipeeth is a very simple and tasty pancake made using Sabudana (Sago / Tapioca pearls), boiled potatoes, peanuts and some spices. This easy to make recipe is perfect for those who are fasting. Well, you don't need to fast to enjoy this wonderful dish.... make it any day and enjoy!

Ingredients-

Sabudana (Sago / Tapioca pearls)- 1 cup

Potatoes- 3 medium sized

Peanuts- 3/4 cup

Cumins seeds- 1 tsp

Ginger- 1 inch piece

Coconuts- 5 tablespoon, grated.

Green chilies- 2-3 as per your choice

Coriander leaves- 1/2 cup

Lemon- 1

Salt to taste

Oil or ghee

  • Wash 1 cup Sabudana (Tapioca pearls) 2-3 times to remove all the loose starch and then soak it in water just enough to dip the sabudana. Let is sit covered overnight or for at least 4 hours.
  • Boil 3 medium sized potatoes. Peel them and them grate or mash them.
  • In a pan, dry roast peanuts on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Cool them completely and then peel  skin of peanuts (I prefer to keep the skin on). Grind peanuts coarsely in a blender and keep aside.
  • In  a blender jar, add grated coconut, green chilies, ginger and cumin seeds. Blend it to make the chutney.
  • Fluff the soaked sabudana and add it in a bowl with boiled potatoes.
  • Add peanut powder. Then add the chutney prepared in blender.
  • Add salt, chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice.
  • Mix everything well to make a nice soft dough.
  • Heat a griddle on medium flame.
  • Grease parchment paper with some oil and then take a small ball of the dough and flatten it to make round pancake (thalipeeth). Try not to make very thin pancakes else they tend to tear while transferring on the griddle. Make a small hole in center.
  • Transfer the pancake on the griddle.
  • Add little oil or ghee in the center of the thalipeeth and then cover and cook for 3-4 minutes on one side.
  • Then flip on other side. Add little oil if needed and cook for another 3-4 minutes till it is nicely cooked on the other side too. It should be nice golden brown from both the sides.
  • Serve it with the yogurt or chutney and enjoy!

I am Sonali and Welcome to Sonali's Homefoods! Thank you for visiting my blog. This is my attempt to digitize my culinary experiments and also seek creative satisfaction. I am not a professional chef or a nutritionist. I enjoy cooking and often find it meditative as it takes my mind of many unnecessary issues. I look forward to sharing with you all, recipes that are tried, tested, tasted and appreciated by my family and friends. Some recipes that I learnt from my parents, some from my friends and their moms. Some I got from recipe books and some I got from internet. But I am most excited to share with you some recipes that I have developed myself. I look forward to enjoy this delicious journey with you all!
